‘Diversity’, ‘equity’, and ‘inclusion’ have been the keywords in most organizations recently. DEI initiatives have been introduced to address bias, discrimination, harassment, unfair wages, and other issues at the workplace. The need for DEI has also increased with the evolving work models mostly after the pandemic— from in-person to virtual and hybrid environments.

79% of respondent companies plan on increasing the DEI budget in 2022, according to a report by Traliant. But it seems money isn’t enough to eradicate deep-rooted problems. The report also mentions that only 13% of senior executives proactively support DEI initiatives. It is a necessity to very much highlight the need for developing more DEI leaders to make positive changes in the workplace behavior and culture. Consistency is a much-required criteria.

According to a study by SHRM in partnership with Harvard Business Review Analytic Service, companies can follow these measures to improve DEI in 2022:

1. Create a hotline for reporting DEI incidents with a warm line for advice and coaching on the subject and also to make employee aware of this DEI.


2. Utilize employee resource groups and networks to their full potential in order to avoid partiality and discrimination among the employees.


3. Diversify hiring panels.


4. Create a DEI steering committee.


5. Offer membership and sponsorship opportunities.


6. Provide reminders to be away from biases that can creep in subconsciously and affect the work culture.
